Suspense III is a study in tension and equilibrium. It captures a moment of fluid, ribbon-like motion that seems to defy the natural rigidity of wood. While the sculpture appears to be a single, continuous sweep, it is actually a masterful example of architectural joinery. By breaking the form down into precise geometric components, the piece achieves a level of complexity and negative space that would be impossible through traditional turning alone.
Synergy II: This wall-mounted relief plays with light and shadow, casting shifting silhouettes that change throughout the day. By utilizing a "cut and turned" method rather than steam-bending, the sculpture possesses a structural permanence and dimensional stability that allows the delicate, interlacing laths to maintain their tension and poise indefinitely.
Finished to a high-gloss sheen, All That Jazz is designed to be viewed from all angles, including the interior. The walls are turned to a uniform thinness, allowing the light to play off the internal geometry and highlighting the flawless joinery. It is both a functional centerpiece and a complex mathematical sculpture that celebrates the "alchemical" transformation of separate wood segments into a singular, harmonious object. All That Jazz contains over 3,500 segments of wood.
